~ The Giver REVIEW ~

The Giver - Lois Lowry

The Giver by Lois Lowry

First of all I hope you all would find my first review helpful as well as feel free to correct me and give me any suggestions as this is my first.

Alright, so let's get into the review. I am going to review the book, The Giver by Lois Lowry.  It was different from what i usually go for in a book but it was highly recommended by my English teacher so i decided to pick it up. Looking at my 4.5 stars that I gave, it really showed that i loved and enjoyed this book.

Going into this book, I did not know anything about it. The plot, the genres, the characters. Nothing! It was all a blur and it took me a few chapters to fully understand and get into the book and to be honest it was quite hard to understand at first as there were a lot of different aspects in The Giver's world. It was not an ordinary world.

Apart from finding confusion in the first few chapter, I found that this book is really easy to understand. After reading the book, i also found out that it was actually a Children's book and I was pretty surprised because honestly it felt more of a young adult book. To me, it just sounds a little too much for a children to read it what with all the truth and the bad of the world. But I think starting from ages 10 and up would really enjoy the book.

I would tell you a little bit about the book without spoiling anything so you can see if you would like to pick this book up. This book is just about pretty much a community that is full of peace and not world torture and everything in this community is very easy going. The main character, Jonas was chosen to be The Giver and while it is a very honourable job, it is also a very painful one. So, this book pretty much talks about Jonas being the next Giver. I won't go into detail of what a Giver is because I think finding out by yourself makes it extra interesting. This book is also part of a Quartet.

I think that's it. I hope you will pick this book up because it is surely a unique book. And P.S. the movie is also out so read the book first!
